A recent article in Block Club Chicago sheds light on The Greystone Collective, and their upcoming exhibition and event series as part of Art Design Chicago.
A collective of eight artists based in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood, The Greystone Collective focuses on uplifiting Black LGBTQ+ makers. Their four-part Indelible Origins series includes exhibitions, artist talks, tours, multi-day art workshops, and more. It celebrates the identity and creative narratives of The GREYSTONE Collective’s artists, makers, and guest collaborators while establishing ancestral ties to the neighborhood’s historical Black makers—Ida B. Wells, Richard Wright, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Margaret Burroughs.
Clemenstien Love, who co-founded the collective, explains the evolution of the Greystone Collective and how it contributes to the neighborhood’s history.
“What we have scheduled for 2024 is a long-coming dream, It’s not just about space. It’s also about the people within a space, but also The Greystone being a cultural place within the Bronzeville community. Indelible Origins is supported by Hyde Park Art Center’s Artists Run Chicago Fund as part of Art Design Chicago. It runs from mid-April to November.
