CBS2 Spotlights Lawrence Agyei: DRILL at Blanc Gallery

“…I think that’s very important to our young people especially black children on the southside of Chicago. It’s important for them to be seen for their positive work and not the negativity that we see every day on the news.” – South Shore Drill Team Media and Special Events Coordinator Stella Natufe.

CBS2’s Darius Johnson gets a sneak peek at Blanc Gallery’s new exhibition, Lawrence Agyei: DRILL, which showcases the South Shore Drill Team preparing for the Bud Billiken Parade after a halt to performances due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Ageyi shot two thousand photographs capturing the team’s artistry and determination, nine of which are on display at Blanc Gallery.

“It’s breathtaking. To see it just come to life. To see it come to fruition. So just seeing someone still care, just as much as people did when we were on the streets. Seeing someone care when we were off the streets matter just as much” – Big Guard Rifle Captain Dessoni Hardge.

DRILL is on display at Blanc Gallery until May 12.
